‘Wise and Effective Academic Governance’

The contemporary state of American higher education will be the focus of “Wise and Effective Academic Governance in an Age of Challenge,” a lecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago by Larry R. Faulkner, president emeritus of the University of Texas at Austin and retired president of Houston Endowment Inc.

Faulkner has more than four decades of experience in higher education. In 1998, he began his tenure as the 27th president of the University of Texas at Austin, where he served for eight years.

He was a member of the chemistry faculty at Harvard University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Texas. At UIUC, he was also a department head, dean and provost.

Faulkner is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He serves on the board of Exxon Mobil Corporation and was previously a member of the boards of Temple-Inland, Inc., Sandia National Laboratories, and Internet2.

From 2006 to 2008, he chaired the National Mathematics Advisory Panel by designation of the president of the United States and the secretary of education.

The presentation is part of the third annual lecture and event series presented by UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares.
