Biography

Andy Clarno researches racism, capitalism, colonialism and empire in the early 21st century, with a focus on policing and social justice movements. 

Clarno is coordinator of the Policing in Chicago Research Group, a research collective that examines policing issues in Chicago. He is co-author of  “Imperial Policing: Weaponized Data in Carceral Chicago,” which explores how local police, federal immigration authorities and national security agencies use high-tech surveillance, large databases, and predictive algorithms.

Clarno has worked on Policing in Chicago Research Group public research reports on surveillance technology, gang databases, suspicious activity reports and data-sharing mechanisms.
