Biography

Sandy Wayne, dean of the UIC College of Business Administration, is an internationally recognized expert on leadership in the workplace.

Wayne studies effective ways to develop high-performing employees and lead teams. In doing so, she looks at what manager behaviors and organizational practices enhance employee motivation and performance. In addition, her research on key factors impacting the upward mobility of women and people of color can help organizations seeking to diversify their workforces and retain talent.

She has published more than 100 articles in leading business journals, such as the Journal of Management and the Journal of Applied Psychology, among others. She has received nearly 20 professional awards recognizing her significant contributions to research, teaching and mentorship.

Wayne served as director of the Institute for Leadership Excellence and Development from 1996-2023, where she collaborated on more than 25 leadership projects with companies such as Allstate Insurance, BMO Harris, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Caterpillar, Jason’s Deli and Motorola.
