Biography

Sarah Abboud

Individuals of Middle Eastern or North African descent traditionally have been classified as “white” by the U.S. government, but advocates long have campaigned for a separate checkbox. Sarah Abboud, an expert in Arab American health, can speak to these efforts.

Abboud also has conducted research on LGBTQ+ health in Lebanon and is working on a gender-based violence prevention intervention for young adult Arabs in Chicago.

In the news: ‘Systematically erased’: Middle Eastern and North African women and LGBTQ+ Americans don’t see themselves in U.S. data.

Languages: English, Arabic and French.
