Sarah Lutz

Sarah Lutz is an assistant professor of anatomy and cell biology in the College of Medicine. Her research focuses on molecules of the central nervous system that influence neuroinflammatory diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.

Her recent research has investigated how immune cells cross the blood-brain barrier in one of the key steps leading to the development of multiple sclerosis. She uses microscopy technique that enables tracking blood-brain barrier proteins in real time. Ongoing studies address molecular mechanisms of disruption and repair.
