Go Cubs Go!

CubsAfter our Chicago Cubs won their wild card game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cubs fans celebrated outside Wrigley Field. I caught a flashback of the Blackhawks Stanley Cup celebration while watching the Cubs fans celebrate. I can’t imagine how Chicago will be if the Cubs make it to the World Series, let alone win the World Series.

One fan held a sign in the middle of the crowd: “It’s Gonna Happen.” I think the city is feeling the same way. Not just because they shut out Pittsburgh at their house, but because of what they have been able to do all season. What I really love about this team is the fact that they are a team. You really can’t point to one person and say that he’s the reason for their success and I think that is what will carry them far into this postseason.

Not to mention the mastermind behind all of this, Joe Maddon. He always looks cool and has something interesting to say. He has the Cubs playing like they are atop the Major League. It’s like the opposing team has to game plan for Joe as much as they do the team. I can tell that he has earned the respect of the entire team and they are believing whatever he’s telling them. I remember when that Joe Maddon first became the Cubs manager he was telling the media that his goal was winning the World Series and he also said that the Cubs need to get a taste of the postseason. Well, they are getting their taste, they like the way it tastes and they are hungry for more.

Now they get a date with what some call the best team in Major League Baseball in the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals have the most wins the entire league but none of that matters now. All teams start fresh and I know that is what Maddon is telling his team. If I were the St. Louis Cardinals, I wouldn’t want to play the Cubs because of the amount of energy and passion they are playing with and it’s only going to get worse for opposing teams, especially playing at Wrigley Field. The first two games of the five-game series will be in St. Louis, but we are guaranteed to see the Cubs play at least once at Wrigley Field and I know the atmosphere is going to be electric at that game. The goal is to get a win in St. Louis and that is more than possible. Before the regular season was over, the Cubs played the Cardinals in a three-game series and the Cubs won two out of three. Now they are riding a 9 game winning streak. Looks like things are changing in Chicago. First the Blackhawks and now the Cubs. Just 11 more W’s to go. Let’s Go!

Matthew decided to come to UIC because of the business program’s reputation and because he wanted to study at a campus with a diverse atmosphere. He likes how close the campus is to downtown Chicago and the Willis Tower. In his free time, he loves to surround myself with loved ones, and he enjoys sports and going to the gym.
