Got talent? UIC Theatre wants to see it

UIC Theater - Passing Strange

The UIC Theatre will hold open auditions for students for the rock musical production “Passing Strange.”

If you channel your inner rock star by belting out AC/DC hits in front of the mirror, UIC’s School of Theatre and Music has the perfect opportunity to unleash your passion.

UIC Theatre will hold open auditions for the musical production “Passing Strange” from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in the lower level of the UIC Theatre.

All UIC students are welcome to audition. Students should prepare a one- or two-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song, preferably rock.

“If you don’t have a rock song or monologue prepared, sing anything out of a musical and bring something to read,” said director Derrick Sanders, assistant professor of theatre. “I just want to see what you got.”

Sanders wants to showcase students who aren’t in the theatre program. “Maybe there is someone out there who really wants to act and sing,” he said. “This is their time to show it.”

“Passing Strange” is about a man attempting to find himself and a home. In his search, he travels to Amsterdam, Germany and other places, meeting a variety of people.

Sanders plans to cast about 20 people. “I encourage all colors, sizes and personalities to audition,” he said.

The show will be performed at the UIC Theatre April 8 to 17.
