Gymnastics competes in mixed pairs exhibition

The men’s and women’s gymnastics teams kicked off their seasons Sunday at the annual mixed pairs exhibition at the Physical Education Building.

Emily LawrenceAlexandra VedeninKyle Christiansen and Dan Zerbelcame out victorious for team two, averaging 22.43 points to combine for a total of 169.90.

Leaders on the men’s side were Jason Gaides on floor (14.60), vault (14.40) and parallel bars (13.50); David Ishida on pommel horse (13.60); Justin Maxwell on rings (13.10); and Zerbel on high bar (13.90).

Leading the women’s team were Chantel Turk on vault (9.85) and floor (9.80), Gabrielle May on bars (9.75) and Alyssa Cruz on beam (9.80).

The men’s and women’s squads host their first regular season meet Jan. 12.  The men’s team takes on Illinois and the women face Penn State at 5 p.m. in the Physical Education Building.
