UIC brews its own fun next week with spooky Halloween celebrations on campus.

Learn how to dance to “Thriller,” trick-or-treat up a rock wall, take a “Spooky Spin” class or dress your Halloween best for a costume contest.

Campus Recreation invites students and employees to master the moves seen in Michael Jackson’s video “Thriller.” Zumba instructor Jeanne Barker will break down the beats during “Learn the Thriller Dance,” 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Oct. 29, Student Recreation Facility multipurpose room.

Climb to the top of the Student Recreation Facility rock-climbing wall and get rewarded with candy during “Climb and Treat,” 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 29. “It’s like trick-or-treating, but better,” said Kara Smith, group fitness coordinator.

The thrills don’t end there. During two “Spooky Spin” classes, participants will spin to Halloween-themed playlist favorites such as “Monster Mash.” Classes take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 and 12:10 p.m. Oct. 31.

All Campus Recreation events are free to UIC students and gym members; daily rates for nonmembers apply. Visit recreation.uic.edu for more information.

If that doesn’t make you scream for Halloween, try Chi Sigma Omega’s second annual Halloween costume contest. The event takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Illinois Room, Student Center East. Proceeds benefit Multiple Sclerosis charities. For information on entering the contest, email dluu2@uic.edu
