Sophomore pitcher Tomas Michelson was selected as the Horizon League’s Pitcher of the Week April 8-14.

Michelson tossed his first collegiate complete game in a 6-1 win against Wright State Friday.

He posted a career-high eight strikeouts during Friday’s win.

“Tomas is a competitor and he had another great outing,” head coach Mike Dee said.

“It’s always important to have a good start and for Tomas to throw nine innings is huge for our bullpen.”

Michelson improved his season record to 4-2, scattering seven hits over nine innings. He did not give up any walks or earned runs.

The Naperville native holds an earned run average of 1.82, which ranks second in the Horizon League, and an opposing batting average of .238, which ranks fourth.

The conference honor is Michelson’s second — he also earned the title Feb. 18.

Michelson was named the National Primetime Pitcher of the Week in February by CollegeBaseball360.com for his performance at Texas A&M.

The Flames will be back in action today, playing at Northern Illinois at 3:05 p.m. The team heads to Youngstown State this week, with games set for 2 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday and noon Sunday.
