Pick up free, donated items at Great Stuff Exchange
The Office of Sustainability will host its annual Great Stuff Exchange from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Lecture Center Quad. The event provides students and employees with access to free, gently used items donated by campus departments.
In case of bad weather, a rain date of Sept. 18 has been scheduled if the Sept. 11 event is canceled.
Materials featured at the event include binders, folders, toner and ink cartridges, cleaning supplies, writing utensils, bulletin board, keyboards, and more.
Items are free, but the Office of Sustainability asks that people take only what they will use.
“Undergrads, graduate students, and department staff and faculty can use help with their bottom line by ‘shopping for free’ at the Great Stuff Exchange,” said Joe Iosbaker, Office of Sustainability recycling coordinator.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Office of Sustainability, and the Great Stuff Exchange has been an annual tradition since its beginnings. But the first-ever Great Stuff Exchange — a five-day event — was organized by Betsy Vandercook, assistant director of Facilities Management and co-chair of UIC’s Green Campus Council, in April 2000 for Earth Month.
September also kicks off the Office of Sustainability’s annual Campus Electronics Recycling Collection, which assists departments with the disposal process of old electronics in storage.
Drop-off locations include:
- 10 a.m-2 p.m. Sept. 19, south of Jane Addams Hull-House Museum
- 10 a.m-2 p.m. Sept. 26, Student Center West, south of the main entrance
