Reuse and recycle

Electronics recycling

UIC students and employees can recycle unwanted electronics at the Campus Electronic Recycling Collection this month.

The Office of Sustainability is hosting two annual events to begin the school year in accordance with UIC’s Climate Commitments.

The Great Stuff Exchange (GSX) will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday on the first floor of Student Center East. During event, extra office supplies donated by campus departments will be given away to promote reuse as an alternative to recycling.

“The mind follows the hand,” said Joe Iosbaker, recycling coordinator for the Office of Sustainability. “When a student picks up a used file organizer at GSX, they ask themselves, ‘Can I use this?’ We hope that act starts a practice of reuse that stays with them forever.”

The Campus Electronic Recycling Collection (CERC) is an opportunity for UIC students and staff to recycle their unwanted electronics. CERC will take place on two different dates for the east and west sides of campus: from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20 in the parking area south of Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 south of the main entrance of Student Center West.

Don’t miss out on these easy opportunities to participate in UIC’s efforts against climate change while also renewing your workspace.
