Serving a good cup of joe for a good cause

Nestled near campus lies a cozy coffee shop where a little goes a long way.
Chicago Hope Café, 2431 W. Roosevelt Road, is a nonprofit coffee shop that uses its proceeds to support student tuition at the nearby Chicago Hope Academy.
Bob Muzikowski, president of Chicago Hope Academy, a private high school near Ogden Avenue and Taylor Street, founded the shop after seeing potential in the historical landmark building to produce additional funding for the school.
“But beyond making money for the school, we’re here to be a light for the community,” general manager Gabrielle Anton said.
The coffee shop hosts nonschool related events for the kids to find a safe and healthy outlet while creating a sense of a community for the neighborhood.
With plenty of natural light, leather couches and small tables to work at, Chicago Hope Café’s vintage ambiance provides a comfortable atmosphere. It is housed in a restored building that was built in the 1800s.
The cafe’s mission is simple: to give back. They are always looking for people to get involved through volunteering, showcasing artwork and performing.
The cafe is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
