Spring break

Alena and I on our spring break adventure!

Hello, readers!

Yes, I know what you’re thinking right now. “Kris, I don’t know what to do for spring break!” No worries, I know that’s always troublesome and you would rather be anywhere than here slipping on the slush and having soaked socks in class. I feel your pain.

Well, luckily I think I have a solution for you! It’s a combination of Couchsurfing and Megabus. Intimidated? It’s okay, I was a bit nervous when one of my best friends, Alena, and I planned our spring break adventure.

Quick snack break.

Alena and I were hanging out before class and we decided that we wanted to do something fun for spring break since so many of our friends had things planned. So what did we do?  We started to look at Megabus trips online and decided we would pick whatever ticket was cheapest and purchase it; no matter where it was. We found tickets that would range from $1 to the most of $15 maximum.

Our planned travel was this:

  • Ann Arbor, MI
  • Cleveland, OH
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • New York City, NY
  • Boston, MA

I then decided to check out the website Couchsurfing, this is a place where, if you are on a tight budget, then this is probably for you. It’s a community of people who have the heart of a traveler, whether that means hosting (allowing people to stay with you), or surfing (staying at someone else’s place). You can find a member who has a background check and communicate with so many people from so many backgrounds. I love it because the people we stayed with during our trip were so warm and welcoming to us and they showed us hidden treasures of each city.

Alena and I went on this journey just knowing we wanted adventure. What we ended up with were so many stories of us experiencing something new. Whether that was sightseeing all these new places, picking up knick-knacks, or sleeping in a car. The trip wasn’t always glorious but it brought us so much closer.

Even if you can’t plan something as elaborate as we did then just make sure you do something new and different. Life is about new experiences and memories to make with family and friends. Just make sure you’re smart about your travels and stay safe.
