Student bands battle it out in talent showcase

Who should apply to compete in UIC Radio’s Battle of the Bands?

“We want students who are creative and want to show their talents to the rest of the student body,” said Austin Sellers, marketing director for UIC Radio.

UIC Radio is accepting applications through Friday for the event, scheduled for March 18. At least one member of the band must be a UIC student.

“It’s an opportunity for students to take part in something new and creative on campus,” said Sellers, a senior in marketing.

Last year, more than 20 bands applied and six were selected as finalists by the UIC Radio executive board. The bands are judged in three areas: performance, professionalism and sound quality. Last year’s winner, Brigade, received a $300 gift card for musical equipment by Best Tronics Pro Radio.

Every band dreams of making it big one day. Touring the country, playing sold-out shows in front of thousands of screaming fans, signing autographs and living life of a rock star. For one lucky band, UIC Radio’s Battle of the Bands could be the first step in fulfilling that dream.

“People can expect a lot of great performances by talented students,” Sellers said.
