Take a break

The UIC Student Recreation Facility’s basketball court is a great place to take a break.

Over these two years that I have been a student at UIC, I have learned that a break from all the coursework is sometimes necessary. You can become overwhelmed having multiple courses and even multiple majors, which some of my peers face, so I suggest that students get there mind off of their work and take some time and enjoy this beautiful campus. After your break, you have to be disciplined enough to return to your life as a student because a break means that at some point you will continue what you were doing.

My favorite place to take a break is the Student Recreation Facility. It has a basketball court, pool and Jacuzzi, and other things like an exercise center and a track field for runners. Another good idea to get away from the schoolwork for a while would be to get to know the campus around you. I never knew how many restaurants were around the campus. I love enjoying some good food when I need a break.

When I was a freshman, the upperclassmen urged me to have a life outside of school. My biggest fear of going to college was that I would lose my life outside of college. Grades are the most important to us as students but having the best college experience that you possibly can have is more important, which includes more than just the grades. When I graduate from college, I don’t want all of my memories to be in the library going my coursework. I want to remember the times in the gym and around the campus looking at this gorgeous campus with the background scene of downtown.

Matthew Maggit is a sophomore in accounting in the College of Business Administration. Matthew decided to come to UIC because of the business program’s reputation and because  he wanted to study at a campus with a diverse atmosphere. He likes how close the campus is downtown Chicago and the Willis Tower. In his free time, he loves to surround myself with loved ones, and he enjoys sports and going to the gym.
