Track and field teams score individual titles
The men’s and women’s track and field teams completed competition at the Bob Eubanks Open Friday in Allendale, Mich., taking home three individual titles.
UIC won titles in the women’s 800-meter run, women’s 3,000-meter run and men’s triple jump.
Rebecca Zaiter brought home an individual title in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.38.
Tess Ehrhardt took first place in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line at 10:29.18.
“Rebecca and Tess came out of the gate with great efforts,” head coach Jim Knoedel said.
“The weather over break made it tough to get in quality work, so I am impressed that they ran that fast so early.”
Other notable finishes on the women’s side included Emma Preston’s performance in the 1-mile run. Preston finished third of five runners with a time of 5:25.02.
On the men’s side, Seyi Ogunleye took home first place in the men’s triple jump. Ogunleye recorded a distance of 13.94 meters, beating the closest opponent by nearly half of a meter.
“Seyi turned in a top-notch performance in the triple jump,” Knoedel said.
Sophomore Martin Hunter ran in the 60-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 7.21 seconds.
Hunter also participated in the 200-meter dash with teammate Patryk Dolega securing seventh and 12th place with times of 22.69 and 23.40 seconds, respectively.
UIC resumes competition next weekend, when the women compete in Romeoville and the men travel to Wisconsin.
