UIC announces climate commitments
WHAT:
University of Illinois at Chicago Chancellor Michael Amiridis and the UIC Office of Sustainability will announce UIC’s commitments to confront the challenges of climate change and sustainability on campus.

DETAILS:
The UIC climate commitments were devised by the Chancellor’s Committee on Sustainability and Energy and include four major goals:
- reduce carbon emissions to become a carbon-neutral campus
- reduce, reuse and recycle to divert 90 percent of waste now sent to landfills
- increase water efficiency to use no more water than the amount that falls within UIC’s boundaries
- create a resilient campus landscape that supports plants and animals to increase biodiversity on campus
Cindy Klein-Banai, associate chancellor for sustainability, will discuss how the university plans to achieve its sustainability goals and reduce the campus’s energy footprint.
