UIC announces climate commitments
University of Illinois at Chicago Chancellor Michael Amiridis and the UIC Office of Sustainability will announce UIC’s commitments to confront the challenges of climate change and sustainability on campus.
Tuesday, April 12
10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
(program begins at 10:30 a.m.)
UIC Student Center East
750 S. Halsted St.
The UIC climate commitments were devised by the Chancellor’s Committee on Sustainability and Energy and include four major goals:
- reduce carbon emissions to become a carbon-neutral campus
- reduce, reuse and recycle to divert 90 percent of waste now sent to landfills
- increase water efficiency to use no more water than the amount that falls within UIC’s boundaries
- create a resilient campus landscape that supports plants and animals to increase biodiversity on campus
Cindy Klein-Banai, associate chancellor for sustainability, will discuss how the university plans to achieve its sustainability goals and reduce the campus’s energy footprint.
