UIC Business Professor Earns Global Honor

James Ho, professor of information and decision sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, has been named Best Professor in Information Systems at the 2012 World Education Congress Global Awards.

The award recognizes excellence in education, leadership and teaching.

Ho has extensive experience working with international organizations, major corporations and small businesses in the application of information technology in the workplace.

Ho studies information and operations management and teaches in the UIC College of Business Administration. His research focuses on multilingual online communications, topological analysis of online auction markets, maximum resolution dichotomy for data mining, and supply-chain management and governance.

His executive seminars on “Competing in the Information Age: Maximizing the Payoff from Information Technology,” “Internet Strategies: Beyond Web Site and Home Pages,” and “Managing E-commerce and Online Businesses,” have been presented in the U.S., Canada, France, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Norway and Singapore.

Ho has published widely in academic and professional journals and authored four books, including “Cyber Tigers: How Companies in Asia Can Prosper from E-Commerce (Prentice Hall/Pearson Education Asia, 2000). He is a graduate of Columbia University and received his Ph.D. from Stanford University.

Ho shared the 2012 global award with Katalin Jackel, associate professor at Budapest Business School, Hungary.

The World Education Congress is a nonprofit institution that focuses on the culture of education, strategies for higher education institutes, and the latest education tools, technologies, and solutions.

The UIC College of Business Administration is a research-based institution located in the heart of Chicago that cultivates a spirit of entrepreneurship through real-world experience. The college is home to more than 2,000 undergraduates and more than 600 students in the Liautaud Graduate School of Business. The college is also home to prominent centers for learning that contribute to the education of students and success of the global business community.
