UIC hosted a meeting of America’s Urban Campus — a coalition of Chicago’s colleges and universities — with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel Jan. 24 to discuss the relationship between higher education and the future of the city.

Leaders from 21 of Chicago’s top colleges and universities attended the meeting, held in University Hall.

“In Chicago, high school graduation is no longer the last stop on a student’s educational journey,” Emanuel said. “We are proud to partner with America’s Urban Campus and Chicago’s college and university partners, who all recognize the value our CPS graduates bring to their institutions, the contributions they make in and out of the classroom, and the imprint they will make on our economy and the world.”

UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis hosted the event.

“Assembling the academic leadership of the city in this manner allows us to both set the agenda for collaboration over the next year and learn of the city’s and our civic partners’ key objectives going forward,” he said.
