The volleyball team (7-10, 1-1) captured its first win of the Horizon League season Saturday with a 3-0 (28-26, 28-26, 26-24) sweep over Green Bay (2-11, 0-2) at the Kress Center.

The Flames continue Horizon League play this week at home, hosting Cleveland State at 7 p.m. Friday and Youngstown State at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Flames Athletic Center.

Junior Stephenee Yancy paced all players with 16 kills to contribute to the Flames’ 51 kills against the Phoenix.UIC rallied in the first set to take a 28-26 win with a .351 hit percentage after Green Bay was in position with a 24-22 advantage. The Flames pulled away in the second set with a 28-26 victory for a 2-0 lead. In the final set, the Phoenix climbed to a 19-14 lead, but UIC brought the score to 24-24 before clinching a 26-24 victory.

Yancy led the Flames in kills, reaching double digits for the 17th consecutive match with 16. Sophomore Kara Johnson added 12 kills for her 14th double-digit outing of the season.

Redshirt-freshman Nicole Johnson dished out 39 assists to bring her season total to 781, while she additionally added three kills, two service aces and seven digs.

Maggie Strus produced a team-high 10 digs against to improve her double-digit dig streak to 10-consecutive matches. Strus owns a total of 242 digs on the season to contribute to her career total of 1,502.
