The volleyball team went 3-0 over the weekend to capture the UIC Invitational title, the first time the Flames have been undefeated in the UIC tournament since 2007.

UIC’s 4-2 start is the best by the Flames since 2011.

The team (4-2) won its third straight match Saturday, defeating Chicago State (0-6) in four sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19) in the Flames Athletic Center.

The Flames return to action Friday and Saturday in the Butler All-American Classic in Indianapolis.

Alyssa Ehrhardt, the tournament MVP, paced UIC with 16 kills on 31 attempts, matching her season best. In the first and second sets, Ehrhardt produced 10 kills on 14 tries. UIC dropped the third set, 25-23 — their first loss of the tournament — before rebounding to win in the fourth set.

UIC had three players with 12-plus kills on the afternoon: Stephenee Yancy (12), Kyisha Hunt (13) and Ehrhardt.
Nicole Johnson handed out 52 assists, her fifth-straight contest with 40 or more helpers, while Bridget Powell collected
14 digs.
