UIC Headlines

UIC Experts

Corporate Tax Breaks: Archer Daniels Midland is looking for a tax break to move its headquarters from Decatur to Chicago. Rachel Weber, UIC associate professor of urban planning and author of “The Ideal Deal,” can comment on how to ensure that such breaks benefit the communities that give them. Contact Anne Brooks Ranallo, (312) 355-2523.

Online Spying: Government surveillance online can be considered uncomfortable, but so are the information gathering practices of the country’s top tech companies, says Zizi Papacharissi, UIC professor and head of communication. Papacharissi, an expert on privacy in digital environments, says that a more explicit framework for ensuring citizens’ privacy is needed. Contact Brian Flood, (312) 996-7681.

Holiday Shopping: The combination of lower gasoline prices and lower credit card debt may mean that consumers have the capacity to spend freely in shopping malls and online this holiday season, according to UIC retail expert Annie Logue. “And that may mean a happy assortment of holidays for retailers, even with an early Hanukkah and a late Thanksgiving,” Logue says. Contact Jeffron Boynés, (312) 413-8702.
