The westbound lanes of Harrison Street remain closed near campus despite a temporary delay in the relocation of power lines and vaults for the Circle Interchange Project.

Harrison Street between Halsted and Morgan streets was closed to westbound traffic March 21. The project was estimated to take four weeks.

However, work has temporarily stopped because Commonwealth Edison workers encountered a gas line not indicated in the construction drawings. If approval for relocation of the gas line is delayed, project managers will review the Harrison Street closure plan.

Work to remove the surfaces of the Harrison Street Bridge over the Dan Ryan Expressway and the Halsted Street Bridge over the Eisenhower Expressway, which partially closed March 3, is scheduled to begin April 8. The concrete demolition will continue around the clock.

To minimize inconvenience to the UIC community, campus representatives are meeting weekly with staff from the Illinois and Chicago departments of transportation and the Circle project construction management team.
