The women’s basketball team closed out the exhibition slate with a 78-48 victory over Indiana-Northwest Monday night at the UIC Pavilion.

The Flames open the regular season Friday at noon against Howard University at the Pavilion.

UIC jumped out to an early 7-0 and never looked back rolling to a 46-23 halftime lead. The Flames had three players in double figures, paced by Ruvanna Campbell with 18 points, 13 rebounds and five steals.  Terri Bender chipped in 15 points and junior Kendyl Nunn scored 11 points in six minutes of action.

UIC outrebounded Indiana-Northwest by a 52-32 margin and limited the Redhawks to just 37 shots for the entire game.  Defensively, the Flames collected 21 steals using a full court press forcing Indiana-Northwest into 33 turnovers.

“Our defense will be our ticket, it will create the majority of our offense triggering the fast breaks,” said head coach Regina Miller. “We want to score 30 percent of our points in transition. Tonight our defense was the difference.”
