The women’s soccer (2-4-0) is preparing to host Northern Iowa Friday after falling to Eastern Michigan (2-3-1) Sunday at Scicluna Field. UIC beat SUIE Friday, 1-0, at Flames Field.

Fans can cheer on the team at 7 p.m. Friday at Flames Field. Students are free with i-card.

With just over three minutes left in the first overtime period Friday night, Olivia Everin buried home the game-winning goal on a pass from Emily Wauer to give UIC the win against SIUE (0-3-2).

Persistence was key for UIC as it continued to battle throughout 90 minutes of play and into overtime. Several opportunities were created during the course of the game as the Flames held a 14-8 shot advantage over the Cougars, with a program-high 10 shots on goal.

Wauer and Jasmin Carrera led all players with four attempts on the night, followed by Everin, Cecilia Magos and Haley Kittle with two each.

Kelly Fritz made three saves in goal in her fourth complete game of the season to earn her fourth career shutout.

During Sunday’s match, all four goals were scored in the first half, with Emi Yamamoto getting the Flames on the board in the 22nd minute.

“We conceded an early goal again which placed us in a difficult spot and allowed them to set the tone,” head coach Brian Rigby said. “We were working hard but need to have longer moments of concentration during the match. There were times in the game where we did some very nice things but staying consistent is what we have to fix going into this week.”

UIC was outshot, 13-9, in the match but had contributions from eight different players led by Wauer with two. Wauer, Yamamoto, Everin and Jennifer Saviski each tabbed shots on goal for the Flames. The Eagles came out in the first half and scored two goals.

Wauer had UIC’s first attempt in the 21st minute with a header and Yamamoto came back a minute later with her first goal of the season to move within one. The Eagles scored again in the 41st minute to stay ahead.

Kelly Fritz made four stops while playing the full 90 minutes.
