Scholars to discuss gender and race issues

A panel of scholars will gather at the University of Illinois at Chicago to talk about their recently published books on gender and race.
“A UIC Feminist Book Celebration!” is presented by the department of gender and women’s studies and UIC’s Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy.

Each author will reflect on the difference her work makes on current debates regarding race, policy, gender and feminism. Moderator for the discussion will be Beth Richie, director of the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy and professor of African American studies and criminology, law and justice.

–Nadine Naber, associate professor of gender and women’s studies and Asian American studies, “Arab America: Gender, Cultural Politics, and Activism.”
–Sekile Nzinga-Johnson, assistant professor of gender and women’s studies, “Laboring Positions: Black Women, Mothering and the Academy.”
