‘Fast Food Nation’ author keynotes conference

The University of Illinois at Chicago presents Eric Schlosser, author of “Fast Food Nation,” on “Food Justice and American Injustice.”

DETAILS:
Schlosser, an investigative journalist and author, is known for exploring topics outside of the focus of the mainstream media. His first book, the best-selling “Fast Food Nation” (2001), examined the local and global influence of the U.S. fast food industry.

Schlosser’s other best-selling books include “Reefer Madness” (2003), which looked at America’s thriving underground economy, and “Chew on This” (2006), a children’s book co-written with Charles Wilson that alerted young readers to the unhealthy effects of fast food.

A contributor to The Atlantic magazine since 1994, Schlosser has also written for The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and other publications.

The talk serves as the keynote address for “Food Justice: Interdisciplinary Perspectives,” a conference sponsored by the UIC Institute for the Humanities and the UIC Chancellor’s Initiative in the Humanities. It is also part of the third annual lecture and event series presented by UIC Chancellor Paula Allen-Meares.
