CHARITY FUND DRIVE IS ON

The Campus Charitable Fund Drive, through Nov. 18, benefits 12 umbrella charity federations representing over 1,500 charitable agencies. UIC employees can donate through a continuous payroll deduction or one-time donation.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR HONORARY DEGREES

Nominations for honorary degrees are due Dec. 1. An honorary degree may be awarded for contributions to the scholarly or professional world, to public service or to UIC’s achievements and the ideals of its missions of teaching, research, service and economic development.

Nominees can be persons of national or international renown in or outside official academic disciplines. Some relationship with UIC is desirable but not required. For more information, contact Elizabeth Dooley, clerk of the Senate, at edooley@uic.edu or 312-995-2926.

STUDENT RESEARCH PRIZE

The George H. Miller Memorial Fund Health Science Student Research Award aims to promote mentored interprofessional research by students enrolled in health science colleges. Up to three $10,000 awards will be given.

WE LOVE THE HUMANITIES

UIC and 4Humanities, an advocacy organization for the humanities, are holding contests for “Shout Out for the Humanities” to raise awareness of the professional, cognitive and interpersonal benefit of studying the humanities.

More information about the contests will be provided at a session at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Institute for the Humanities, lower level of Stevenson Hall, followed by a creativity workshop from 4 to 5 p.m.

The goal of the contests for undergraduate and graduate students is to answer these questions: Why is studying the humanities important to you and to society? How would you convince your parents, an employer, a politician or others that there is value in learning the humanities?
