April 19, 2024

11:00 am - 12:15 pm

Judith Lewis Herman, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, will speak on “Truth and Repair: How Trauma Survivors Envision Justice,” as a special guest lecturer.

Herman is a pioneer in the field of therapeutic care for survivors of trauma. For 30 years, until her retirement, she was director of training at the Victims of Violence Program at Cambridge Hospital. Her three-stage model for trauma recovery has influenced clinical practice with trauma survivors around the world. In her newest book, “Truth and Repair: How Trauma Survivors Envision Justice,” she commits to the radical act of listening to survivors. Recounting their stories, she offers an alternative vision of justice as healing for survivors and their communities.

The lecture from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Irwin Auditorium will be followed by a reception from 12:15-1:15 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge, Room 119.
