Join Chicago Humanities Festival for a preview screening of “Three Minutes — A Lengthening,” a film essay examining a 1938 home video that comprises the only known footage of Nasielsk, Poland’s Jewish inhabitants before the Holocaust. Directed by Bianca Stigter (“12 Years a Slave”), co-produced by Steve McQueen, and narrated by Helena Bonham Carter, “Three Minutes” is a meditation on the nature of time, scarcity, survival, memory, and film itself. Join CHF and Michał Paweł Markowski, the Stefan and Lucy Hejna Family Chair in Polish Language and Literature and head of the UIC Department of Polish, Russian, and Lithuanian Studies, for an afternoon about how this brief, private record uncovered a lost piece of public history.
