The “Surviving R. Kelly” docuseries sparked conversations about sexual violence within Black communities. For many, there is a focus on the ways that victims are shamed and offenders are protected. Sexual violence is not exclusive to Black communities. However, some people’s commitment to cultural unity creates tension and confusion: Does believing and supporting victims and survivors mean we must discard and exile offenders? This question comes from the reality that it is often harmed individuals, many of whom are girls and women, who are ignored and silenced.

Join us for a discussion of the impact of sexual violence within Black communities. Let’s brainstorm ways to address this issue for the sake of Black girls and women.
