Interim CEO University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics

Dear Colleagues,

I write to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert Barish, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, as the Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics, effective September 1, 2017, subject to approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees. This interim appointment will allow for the continued transition in leadership following the departure of Dr. Avijit Ghosh. Vice Chancellor Barish will hold this dual role until the conclusion of a national search for a permanent CEO, chaired by Jerry Bauman, Dean of the College of Pharmacy.

The University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics is comprised of a 495-licensed-bed hospital, which cares for more than 135,000 unique patients every year; the Outpatient Care Center, which houses 21 primary and specialty care clinics; and multiple off-site clinics throughout Chicagoland. In collaboration with its academic partners, the mission of the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics is to advance healthcare to improve the health of our patients and communities, promote health equity and develop the next generations of healthcare leaders.

I hope you will join me in thanking Dr. Ghosh for his commitment to the university and hospital and in supporting Vice Chancellor Barish for his ongoing leadership of UI Health.

Sincerely,

Michael D. Amiridis
Chancellor
