Learning to fly

The 4-week-old peregrine falcon chicks nesting on a 28th-floor ledge of University Hall are growing fast, trading their fluff for adult feathers and strengthening their wings.

Any day now, one of the three chicks will take its first flight when a gust of wind catches its wings and takes it off the ledge. The young bird will fly to a nearby building and rest, even for as long as several days, before it flies home.

Watch the falcon family live on UIC FalconCam.
