North Lawndale/UIC celebrates Obama library proposal Dec. 11

NBA Hall of Famer and business leader Isiah Thomas will join North Lawndale community and UIC leaders and 350 elementary school students at Sumner Math & Science Community Academy to celebrate and showcase the submission of the University of Illinois at Chicago-North Lawndale proposal to host the Obama Presidential Library.

DETAILS:
Speakers will inform the audience about the University of Illinois at Chicago’s proposal to host the Obama Presidential Library on a North Lawndale community site bounded by Fifth Avenue, Kildare and Kostner Avenues and Roosevelt Road.
Principal W. Delores Robinson will launch an Obama Presidential Library essay campaign and lead Sumner students, decked out in Obama-themed t-shirts, in celebrating to the tune of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.” The auditorium will be decorated in student art supporting the Obama Presidential Library.
Sumner, a magnet school specializing in math and science for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, is located across the street from the site.
UIC representatives,elected officials and community leaders will join students at the celebration.
