Recent grad earns AmeriCorps fellowship

Brian Geiger

Brian Geiger will work with a nonprofit organization starting in September.

Brian Geiger, a recent Honors College grad, was named a 2016-17 fellow in the New Sector Alliance’s Residency in Social Enterprise (RISE), an 11-month AmeriCorps program designed for recent college graduates with up to five years of post-college work experience.

As part of the Chicago cohort, Geiger will serve full-time with a nonprofit organization beginning in September. RISE Fellows commit to serving approximately 1700 hours and are eligible for certain AmeriCorps benefits, such as a stipend, health and dental insurance, and an education award at the completion of service. Participants also receive professional development through structured and as needed opportunities for training, mentorship
and coaching.

At UIC, Geiger was an associate senator in Undergraduate Student Government. Away from campus, he works on housing issues and anti-violence initiatives in the community. He received degrees from UIC in political science and criminology, law and justice.

He is a public policy fellow at the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Inc.
