About 10,000 visitors, including prospective students, families, alumni and neighbors, came to campus Saturday for UIC Open House, the annual showcase for academic programs and student life.

“It was really a fantastic day,” said Oscar Rodriguez, director of recruitment and outreach.

Parking Lot 5 was full by 9:15 a.m. so visitors were directed to an additional lot, and the crowed remained strong for the duration of the event, Rodriguez said.

“We still had visitors waiting for campus tours at 2 p.m. and there was a great deal of interest throughout the day,” he said.

Events presented by colleges, student services and organizations included lectures, tours, demonstrations and performances.

Open House coincided with Revelry, a three-day carnival hosted by the UIC Center for Student Involvement that was open to the public Saturday.

“We had great cooperation between both events to make sure we could drive as many people to campus as we could,” Rodriguez said. “Both events went swimmingly well.”
