DETAILS:

This Pulitzer-winning play evoked optimism when it premiered at the end of the Great Depression, and it still does today.  Set in a San Francisco waterfront dive, Nick’s Pacific Street Saloon, it celebrates life’s eccentricities in the mingling of denizens like a beleaguered cop, a frustrated dancer, a prostitute, an Eastern philosopher, Kit Carson, and the mysteriously wealthy Joe, who indulges his whims and those of anyone else who has a dream.

Peyankov played Nick in Steppenwolf’s 2002 production of the play, which travelled to Seattle and San Francisco, Saroyan’s home.

Tickets are $11 – 16 and may be purchased at the box office or online.

For information, call the UIC Theatre at (312) 996-2939.

“In the time of your life, live — so that in that wondrous time, you shall not add to the misery and sorrow of the world, but shall smile to the infinite delight and mystery of it. ” — William Saroyan
