LOL Thursday with the Wayans Brothers
Get ready for some gut-busting skits and lines you won’t want to miss.
Renowned comedian brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans are the headliners of the third annual LOL@UIC. You may have seen them in the movie “White Chicks” or their TV show “The Wayans Bros.,” but the UIC community can see them live at the UIC Forum Thursday night.
“The Wayans brothers were always the radical television and movie actors,” said Christian Gray, director of marketing for the Student Activities Board. “This event is about getting the students involved on campus. To bring UIC in the spotlight.”
The show is free for students and employees, who must show a valid i-card. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.
Students can win VIP passes, posters, t-shirts and beanies by playing a “Wheel of Fortune” game at the Student Activities Board booth today in Student Center East, in front of the UIC Bookstore.
Returning Chicago talent MISSION IMPROVable will warm up the crowd.
“They’re a great group of guys,” said Almasa Pecanin, head committee chair for the Student Activities Board. “Last year, they did this skit with two guys from the audience, asking them to pull up a text conversation they were comfortable sharing. So the actors would start the conversation and incorporate that message. There were two girls in the front row having a blast. I couldn’t believe they were reading this on stage.”
Thanks to the Student Activities Board and Campus Programs, the comedy event is free for the UIC community.
Last year, the first 350 students to enter the show received a free pom pom beanie. This year, 450 will be given away.
“Expect to have more laughs,” said Sladjana Grbic, assistant program director for Campus Programs. “Take a break from classes to laugh and see Marlon and Shawn in person, for free.”
